Alan Kunovsky

Chief Executive Officer

Alan is an accomplished businessman who has built both revenue and reputation for numerous companies and organizations, both in America and abroad. He is responsible for providing management of our overall operations, financial affairs, and strategic development as well as expanding our global sales and outreach. He also provides important leadership for TGI to adapt its offerings to the quickly changing technology-based market.

Etana Dykan Kunovsky


Etana started The Gottman Institute in 1996 with Drs. John and Julie Gottman. She is a co-owner of the company and has served in a leadership role as Executive Director for many years. She works intimately with the Gottmans in the development of programs and in setting strategic direction. Her business vision and passion for the Gottmans’ work has propelled the Institute into the establishment of an international presence with worldwide recognition. She is responsible for the development and expansion of new business ventures, our global speaker’s bureau and new program offerings. She received an advanced degree in Education from the University of Santa Cruz, CA. She has many years of experience in community and educational program development and as an entrepreneur, has launched numerous companies around the world.

Michael Fulwiler

Chief Product Officer

Michael has been with The Gottman Institute since 2011. After serving as Marketing Director for 4 years, he was named Chief Product Officer in February 2017. As product and marketing team lead, he is responsible for making Gottman relationship tools accessible to the world, positioning The Gottman Institute as an industry innovator and leader. He has a B.A. with Honors in English from the University of Washington. Outside of work, Michael is a baseball coach and cautiously optimistic Mariners fan.

Jen Dalby

Chief Education Officer

Jen has served in education and technology product and program leadership roles for nearly two decades. At The Gottman Institute, she is dedicated to designing, developing, and implementing exceptional learning experiences, using research-based instructional practices.


Chief Morale Officer

As the newly-appointed Chief Morale Officer, Amu currently oversees napping, chew toys, and belly rubs, as well as supporting (eating) office snacks. Under his supervision, The Gottman Institute has experienced significant growth in company morale. In his free time, he enjoys networking at local dog parks and cultivating his brand on Instagram (@amutheofficedog).

Andrea Arreola

Training Coordinator


Andrea was born in Colombia and raised in Miami, Florida. She graduated from Northwest University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and has aspirations to earn her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in the near future. In her role as Training Coordinator, Andrea is responsible for supporting various educational training programs. In her spare time, Andrea can be found cooking, camping, and playing with her dogs.

Carrie Cole

Love Lab Director


Carrie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with honors in both her BA in Psychology and her M.Ed. in Psychology with a specialization in Counseling Psychology. In her role as Research Director, Carrie manages and coordinates research projects for The Gottman Institute. She also interfaces with universities around the country in joint research initiatives.

Don Cole

Clinical Director


Don is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and an approved LPC & LMFT Supervisor. He received his doctorate in ministry with a specialization in psychotherapy from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1993. He has 30 years of experience working with individuals and couples in various capacities including marital therapy, affair recovery, depression, anxiety, trauma recovery, parenting, and personality disorders. Dr. Cole is a Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist and a master trainer in Gottman Method Therapy, teaching all levels of the Gottman Method Certification Program.

As the Clinical Director, Don oversees clinical aspects of The Gottman Institute. He provides consultation to Certified Gottman Therapists and clinicians in training. He also helps select, train and provide oversight to consultants and video reviewers who certify therapists in the Gottman Method. In addition, he is involved overseeing quality control of new programs and products; training and supervising roving therapists at couples workshops; responding to quality concerns about therapists and consultants; and answering clinical questions.

Crystal Cressey, LMFT

Couples Program Manager


Crystal received her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Lutheran University and has a private practice in Seattle working with couples and individuals. She works in the Couples Department to manage many tasks, including customer service, registration for trainings, helping to coordinate event logistics for couples workshops and referrals to Certified Gottman Therapists.

Caitlin Donahue

Art Director


Caitlin graduated from the University of Washington with a B.D. in Visual Communication Design. In her role as Art Director, Caitlin is responsible for the creative vision and production of all Marketing Department projects, including packaging, displays, print collateral, email campaigns, web design, and graphics for social media.

Hannah Eaton

Leader Program Coordinator


Hannah received her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of New Hampshire, and her B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont. She manages the Bringing Baby Home and the 7 Principles Leadership training programs, as well as Level 3 clinical training for clinicians. She also coordinates event logistics and registration for professional trainings at The Gottman Institute.

Katelyn Ewen

Graphic Designer


Katelyn graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a B.A. in Visual Communications. In her role as Graphic Designer, she is responsible for the conceptualization and creation of Marketing Department Projects, including social media graphics, email campaigns, packaging, and displays.

Walter Guity

Customer Service Manager


Walter was born and raised in New York City and graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Diversity. He has aspirations to earn his masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in the near future. In his role as Customer Service Coordinator, he is responsible for supporting customer happiness by responding to all customer inquiries, including questions about the store and issues with orders to ensure customer satisfaction.

Kendra Han, MSW

Director of Couples Programs


Kendra has a B.A. in Environmental Sciences from UC Berkeley, and a Master of Social Work from Columbia University. She has a wealth of social work experience including social work in a hospital setting, family advocacy, community development, Head Start, and she was Program Director for New Futures in Burien for 7 years.

Kennedy James

Technical Program Manager

Information Services

Kennedy is a library and information science professional with over 20 years of experience managing information services and supporting success of adult learners. She holds her MLIS from the University of Washington and achieved doctoral candidacy in adult learning and educational leadership. At The Gottman Institute, Kennedy supports effective delivery of services for both consumers and professionals through information management across integrated technologies and supporting efficient cross-unit operations.

Amy Loftis, MS

Director of Professional Programs


Amy is a graduate from the University of Washington holding dual degrees in Anthropology and Business Administration. She also has a Masters in Science from the University of Texas at Austin. In her role as the Director of Professional Programs, Education she oversees the educational training programs including Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1, 2, and 3 Clinical Training events, Certification Track, University Outreach Program, The Speaker's Program and Gottman Specialty Trainings, including: the 7 Principles Leader, and Bringing Baby Home Educator Training. Amy has the pleasure of working with the dedicated and diligent professional development staff.

Jennifer Loser

Certification Coordinator


Jen received her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University and her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Colorado. She has a private practice in Seattle where she works with young individuals and couples in seasons of transition. She manages The Gottman Institute’s Certification Track where she loves supporting therapists in mastering Gottman Method Couples Therapy skills through the consultation process.

Vivian Lu

Digital Marketing Coordinator


Vivian joined The Gottman Institute in December of 2017. In her current role, she manages publishing and engagement across social media, website optimization, and customer data analysis and reporting. When she isn't working, you can find her people-watching, movie-watching, or dog-watching.

Amy McMahan, MS, LMFTA

Couples Support Manager

Couples Services

Amy received her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. She has enjoyed serving families and children in a community mental health setting and has experience working with couples transitioning to parenthood. She currently practices in West Seattle where she works with couples, families, and individuals.
Amy works in the Couples Department to assist with the registration process and event logistics for couples workshops.

Sadie Peterson

Program Manager for Professional Certification


Sadie received her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University and her B.A. in Psychology from Whitworth University. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and works with college students at Seattle Pacific University. In her role at TGI, she manages Certified Gottman Therapists and Trainers.

Philippe Post

Instructional Design Specialist


Philippe graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Material Science and Engineering and a B.A. in French. As part of the Online Learning team, Philippe designs and develops engaging learning experiences to help clinical professionals fill in any potential knowledge gaps.

Katie Reynolds

Speakers Program Manager


Katie provides overall management of contracted speaking and training events by Drs. John and Julie Gottman and our Master Trainers, bringing our talented presenters to organizations around the world. In addition, she coordinates interviews and media appearances for our speakers with journalists and producers to promote and educate audiences about the Gottman Method and the work of The Gottman Institute. Katie graduated with B. A. in Humanities from the University of Washington.

Becca Sangwin

Marketing Director


Becca started with The Gottman Institute in 2016 as a Digital Marketing Intern. A year later, she was named the Marketing Director. She works closely with the Marketing Team and other departments to strategize and coordinate all marketing initiatives for The Gottman Institute. She has a passion for analytics and strives to use data to drive all decision making. Becca holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a marketing concentration from Western Washington University.

Edward Sargent

Director of Online Learning


Ed is the Director of Online Learning at The Gottman Institute. His job is to improve the lives of people by using technology to teach and spread The Gottman Method.
In his spare time, you can find Ed making connections through visual storytelling, cooking, or listening to musicians ranging from Prince to Miles Davis.

Aziza Seykota

Product Director


Aziza graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Washington. She has experience working in IT management and leads a community group for individuals looking to live simply in the modern world. She focuses on keeping TGI’s products and resources current with a modern edge and supports the Products Department with customer service, managing inventory and digital media product development.

Therese Soudant, LMFT

Therese received her M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University in Marriage and Family Therapy and has a private practice working with individuals, couples and families in Seattle.
