Scientific assessment leads to better results.

One of the key assessment tools used by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, and over 10,000 other clinical professionals, is the Gottman Relationship Checkup. Using research-based algorithms, the Relationship Checkup generates unique summary reports for both the clinician and the couple. Validated and highly reliable, the Relationship Checkup report provides recommendations to the clinician regarding the couple’s friendship, intimacy, ability to manage conflict, trust, and more.

Developed and refined with over 40 years of research and data from more than 100,000 couples, this relationship assessment tool focuses on the key conditions and behaviors that lead relationships to succeed or fail.

  • New Couples Report. Therapists will now receive a Clinical Report as well as a Couples Report to review and share with their clients.

How it works…

Fully HIPAA compliant, the questionnaire consists of 337 questions about friendship, intimacy, emotions, conflict, values, and trust. It includes questions about parenting, housework, finances, and individual areas of concern. Each partner completes the online questionnaire independently and you receive the results, recommendations, and clinical and couples reports as soon as they have both submitted their responses.

The Gottman Relationship Checkup is available to counselors, therapists, clergy, and other mental health professionals who work with couples. There’s no fee to apply to become an approved Gottman Relationship Checkup provider. Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy is highly recommended, though not required. Complete the short application form and you can begin inviting couples as soon as your application is approved.

Once approved, it’s easy to invite your couples to complete the questionnaire. Each partner starts by creating an account with a unique login and password before completing a personal profile that will be associated with their individual responses to the questionnaire. Neither partner can access the other’s information at any time, and we request that you advise them not to share their login information with each other. There is a fee per couple.

You will be notified as soon as both partners have submitted their questionnaires. From your dashboard you will be able to view and download detailed reports that include responses, areas of concern in the relationship, and suggested treatment options. This will prepare you to develop a treatment plan that precisely focuses on the unique needs of each couple. The system provides you with a detailed Couples Report that you can give to your couples to help them understand their strengths and challenges, and begin their journey to a stronger relationship.
